VIDEO PRESENTATIONSSo that people can see for themselves the beauty and excitement that awaits them underwater in Michigans inland lakes, I have prepared underwater videos of varying lengths of 24 minutes, 45 minutes, one hour, one and a half hours and two hours. These videos cover a variety of species, turtles, mating behaviors and amazing close-ups. The videos are not for sale but are for presentation to groups. I personally narrate the videos and bring along books for sale and autograph signings. Below is a description of a typical presentation. ROTARY CLUB, LANSING, MICHIGANAPRIL 2, 1999 NANCY WASHBURNE, FASCINATING Our speaker was introduced by the Chairman of the Day, Don Lawrence. Nancy Washburnes program was titled, Snorkeling Michigans Inland Lakes and Don noted his bankruptcy clients were always under water so he felt it appropriate he introduce Nancy. She presented us with a fascinating program in which we were introduced to the active and colorful world of our many inland lakes. An avid snorkeler with a travel agency, for years she only observed the habitat in far away exotic salt water spots like Cozumel and Truk Lagoon. When she attempted to obtain information about our fresh water lakes, Nancy discovered there was very little available. That is when she submerged (sorry) herself in the project of exploring the uncharted waters and subsequently published her book, SNORKELING GUIDE TO MICHIGAN INLAND LAKES. Nancy pointed out that this is a relatively effortless hobby to involve oneself with. You simply get in your car and drive to a lake, parking at the public access. You get out of the car, walk into the water and lie down. Thats it! You dont swim around a la Sea Hunt because that scares the fish. You dont go into deep water, (usually just 3-4 feet) because all the interesting stuff is right near the shore. You dont even need to be in shape. (fat floats!). The bulk of Nancys program involved watching a well-made underwater video of wildlife she has observed. We were treated to views and descriptions of all sorts of creatures, including many varieties of bass, pike, bluegill, trout, herring and turtles. We saw a prehistoric fish (bowfin), zebra mussels, crayfish, sea lamprey and even fresh water jelly fish. We learned the mating rituals of many fish, that they have personalities and that many fish remain in the same location for years! Most importantly, we learned never to wear yellow around certain species of turtles--or prepare to be propositioned! Nancy, who often spends 5 or 6 hours under water, concluded by saying inland lake snorkeling is a wonderful stress-relieving avocation, (beats hitting your drive into the woods). The following is a list of some of the video presentations already made: DNR Fisheries Group, Ferris State University In addition to the above presentations, I have also made video presentations at 66 Michigan bookstores, including all Barnes and Noble bookstores, Borders and many independent bookstores and dive shops.
